Daniel O'Donnell mourns passing of manager and friend Kieran Cavanagh

A native of Easkey in County Sligo, Kieran Cavanagh, who worked as promoter and, more recently, manager of Donegal country music star Daniel O'Donnell, died on Tuesday morning

Daniel O’Donnell was plunged into sadness following the death of his manager and close friend Kieran Cavanagh.

A native of Easkey in County Sligo, he passed away on Tuesday morning at St Vincent’s Private Hospital.

Late last year, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

“It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my friend and manager Kieran Cavanagh,: Daniel wrote.

“Kieran died in the wonderful care of St Vincent’s Private Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Please keep them in your prayers at this very sad and difficult time”

Since the 1980s, Kieran worked as Daniel’s promoter and he succeeded Sean Reilly as his manager in 2015 when Reilly retired after 30 years.

Kieran staged a major concert, headlined by Daniel, at The Point in 1992.

He managed the iconic Jerry Lee Lewis for two years i n the 1990s and he worked with the likes of Tom T Hall and Glen Campbell, while he brought Johnny Cash to Ireland.

His own musical career started when he played bass guitar with The New Blues showband in the 1970s.
