Daniel O'Donnell pays tribute to 'inspirational' friend Charlie Bird

Daniel O'Donnell has paid tribute to journalist Charlie Bird who died on Monday after a battle with motor neurone disease.

The Donegal singer took to social media to say: "It is with sadness that I learned of the death of Charlie Bird.

"I am richer because of the short friendship we had.

"He truly was an inspiration.

“On behalf of Majella and myself I send our sincere sympathy to Claire and all his family and of course Tiger.

“Rest in peace Charlie.”

Daniel was one of the people who joined Charlie Bird in climbing Croagh Patrick on his inspirational fundraising event. Climb With Charlie took place on April 2, 2022. 

As well as the main climb, many more events took place all over the country in solidarity with Charlie. Over €3.6 million was raised for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House.
