Kilcar's Aoife Hegarty named Deputy Editor of RTÉ Investigates

Kilcar woman Aoife Hegarty has been appointed as the new Deputy Editor of RTÉ Investigates.

A former reporter with the Donegal Democrat, she has worked with the RTÉ Investigation Unit for a decade now.

In 2014, Aoife and her colleague Janet Traynor won the 'Best Production – National Broadcast Media' Award at GSK Irish Healthcare Media Awards for their work on the Prime Time programme 'Fatal Failures'.

The programme helped to expose the concern over the deaths of babies at the Maternity Unit of the Midland Regional Hospital at Portlaoise.

In a post on social media, Aoife said she is 'honoured' at the appointment and added: “I’m looking forward to taking on new challenges, while continuing to do some reporting.”

Aoife is a daughter of Peggy and Maurice Hegarty from Ballymacfadden, Kilcar.
