A woman was hospitalised on Thursday evening after being struck by concrete that fell off a former shop building in Raphoe.

The concrete piece fell from a part of the old building just above what would have been the front door.

It is understood that the woman was accompanied by a relative when the incident occurred on The Diamond area of the east Donegal town.

The event sparked a frantic response from locals nearby who rushed to the woman’s aid.

Gardai and emergency services also attended the scene before the woman was transferred to Letterkenny University Hospital.

The building in question is a disused shop which once housed John Moffat & Sons and was sold in recent years.
