An impression of the proposed new development
Planning permission has been sought for the construction of new apartment blocks in Letterkenny.
R.I Scott Construction Limited has submitted an application to Donegal County Council in relation to a planned development at Oldtown, Letterkenny that would contain 20 new apartments.
The developer is seeking the green light to build a four-storey block and a three-storey block.
The three-story block would contain six apartments with 14 apartments in the four-story block.
The works would include a shared roof terrace, with all ancillary site works to include connection to existing public services, proposed new entrance and speed table. Associated car parking, amenity space, bicycle parking, bin compounds and storm water discharge to existing stream are all provided for in the application.
Previously, six apartments were approved for the same site in 2021, but a design statement submitted to the local authority on behalf of the developer says: “The type of accommodation required to meet demand has changed over a number of years.
“Previously, the demand was predominantly for three-bedroomed family accommodation.
“However current demand profiles indicate that 1 and 2 bedroomed accommodations will meet 64% of the overall need (in accordance with housing need assessment by Donegal County Council for Letterkenny).”

The statement adds: “In our opinion, the proposed development represents a high-quality apartment scheme which has been designed to help to diversify the housing stock in Letterkenny and to help address the ongoing housing need and respectfully request the planning authority to consider a positive decision in due course.”
Donegal County Council expect to have a decision by August 7, 2025.
