Members are being advised not to call the number provided, not to click on any links and not to share personal or financial information
Credit Unions have issued a warning over fraudulent text messages being sent out in their name.
The fraudulent messages are designed to look like genuine account verification texts and may even appear in the same thread as legitimate codes. In some cases, the sender’s number closely resembles that of official sources, making the scam appear more convincing.
The texts attempt to trick recipients into calling a fake phone number, where they are then asked to disclose sensitive financial details.

“We have been made aware of a fraudulent text message targeting credit union members nationally,” Letterkenny Credit Union posted. “The message falsely claims that a member’s credit union card has been placed on hold due to suspicious activity, and instructs them to call a number to resolve the issue.
Members are being advised not to call the number provided, not to click on any links and not to share personal or financial information. Anyone who believes they may have responded to such a message is urged to contact their credit union immediately for assistance. Customers are also encouraged to alert friends and family to the scam and help spread awareness.
