Gardai remain at the scene of a suspicious fire in St Johnston.

The blaze broke out in a container at a construction site just off the Main Street between 9-10pm on Thursday.

It is the latest in a series of such incidents in the border village in recent weeks.

Firefighters from the Donegal Fire Service brought the flames under control. The Fire Service were assisted by gardai at the scene.

Officers remain at the scene, which has been preserved for a technical examination. It is expected that a Garda technical team will be on site this morning to carry out an infestation at the scene.

The fire broke out in the container which is located on a site on which Uisce Éireann are carrying out major works.

In August, Farrans Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann began works to construct a new pumping station and rising main to serve St. Johnston with the current wastewater infrastructure in the village described as ‘inadequate’.
