Uisce Éireann’s efforts to improve the water supply for customers across Donegal are continuing with works due to get underway in the Port na Bláiche and An Craoslach areas in the coming days.

The communities of An Fhothair, Port na Bláiche, and Droim na Rátha, An Craoslach can look forward to more confidence in their water supply, as Uisce Éireann works set to commence to replace 1.4km of old water mains with new modern pipes.

The works will take place in two phases on the N56 between An Fhothair and Droim na Rátha, as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme. Homes and businesses in these areas will benefit from this significant investment, which will see new modern pipes installed to deliver a more reliable water supply.

Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager Patricia Lowry is looking forward to delivering the project for customers in the area.

“This section of water main was prioritised for investment and replacement due to its age and condition. These improvements to the water network are critical and we are delighted to progress these upgrades for the local community, as they will strengthen the water network for generations to come. This work will bring a range of benefits for our customers in the area including reliability of supply, fewer bursts and less leakage.”

To deliver this project safely and efficiently, traffic lights will be in place while works are underway.  Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

Farrans Construction is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to be complete early next year. This project is being delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme which continues to deliver significant benefits to communities across Ireland, including improved water quality, provision of a more resilient and sustainable water supply for customers, and considerable water savings.
