Donegal journalist Mark Tighe has announced his departure from the Sunday Independent.
Tighe, best known for his investigative pieces, was educated at St Bridget’s in Convoy and then Raphoe Royal and Prior, whilst his family home is in Donegal Town.

“Some personal news - after almost four years at the Sunday Independent, last weekend's was my last edition,” Tighe posted. “It was a privilege working with so many great journalists. I'll hopefully have details on an exciting new project soon.”
Tighe was the legal correspondent of The Sunday Times in Ireland, having graduated from NUI Galway’s with an MA in Journalism in 2006.
He is the co-author of Champagne Football, which was released in 2020, along with his then Sunday Times colleague Paul Rowan. The duo broke a series of stories over the mismanagement in the Football Association of Ireland by former CEO John Delaney.
In 2024, alongside Marie Crowe, he published a major investigation into the abuse suffered by Irish women footballers in the 1990s, a joint effort between the Sunday Independent and RTÉ Investigates.
He won the overall title at the Irish Journalism Awards in both 2019 and 2024.
