Gardaí were on patrol in the early hours of Tuesday morning, when they stopped an unaccompanied driver who was the holder of a provisional licence, which was issued in the North.

"Please be advised that if you are the holder of a Northern Irish Provisional driving licence or the holder of an Irish learner permit that they are only valid for use within the jurisdiction from which they were issued," An Garda Siochána warned. "A fixed charge penalty notice was issued and the vehicle was seized. The driver will be further dealt with under the Juvenile Liaison Scheme."
