The council chamber in Lifford
A member of the 100% Redress Party has expressed disappointment that a proposed emergency meeting of Donegal County Council to discuss the fuel crisis did not proceed today.
Last week, they called for a ‘special emergency meeting" of the local authority in the wake of the fuel crisis and subsequent protests and to call on the Taoiseach and Tanaiste to resign.
However, party member Tomás Seán Devine said he was informed ahead of today’s monthly meeting of the council that his request for a special meeting could not be facilitated.

Addressing the meeting, Cllr Devine said he had requested the meeting by email over the weekend to both the Chief Executive, John McLaughlin, and Cathaoirleach Paul Canning.
However, Cllr Devine said, he was very disappointed to receive "no response."
“Only this morning, I heard I could not put my motion forward and I’m very disappointed at that and that I got no response to my request,” Cllr Devine said.
“Thousands of normal working people took to the streets over the past week over this issue. Can we arrange a special meeting of the council to discuss this issue as soon as possible.”
In response, the Cathaoirleach, Cllr Canning, said: “I’ll facilitate your meeting as soon as possible. I’ll let you know this evening when that can take place.”
