Donegal farmers have been warned about the uncertainty that lies ahead due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

A variety of issues that are now emerging were highlighted by a number of speakers who addressed the March meeting of the Co. Donegal Executive of the IFA.

Kieran McEvoy, chair of the IFA National Grain Committee, spoke about the importance of food security, and said that there are particular concerns about the pig and poultry sectors in Ireland.

Midlands North-West MEP Colm Markey said there is a need for an action plan at a European level.

Mr Markey pointed out that €660m euro a day goes to Russia to pay for gas, oil and coal.

He stressed the importance of both food and energy security.
