Covid expert to address Donegal tourism conference

Professor Sam McConkey

One of the leading medical experts advising the public on Covid-19 affairs will address members of the Donegal tourist industry when he appears at this year's Donegal Tourism Conference which will take place on Wednesday, March 30 in Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey

'Adapting to Changing Times' is the rather apt theme for the gathering at which Professor Sam McConkey will speak.

After a difficult two years for the hospitality and tourism sector, this event will provide an opportunity for the trade, community groups, and others to come together, network, and share their experiences and hopes going forward.

The Associate Professor and Head of the Department of International Health and Tropical Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland have been a regular and trusted contributor throughout the pandemic and no doubt will have some wise words to say.

The conference, which is being organised by Donegal County Council in association with Donegal Tourism CLG and is hoping to attract tourism businesses and interests to attend.

This conference will combine both keynote speakers, exhibitors, and the Tourism Unit Team from the council. They will be available to provide information on getting listed on www.govisitdonegal.com, the Tourism Hub, plus other trade opportunities.

Other speakers will include Charlene Boyle, Fáilte Ireland. She will present the challenges facing hospitality when it comes to recruitment.

She will be joined by Natasha Gilleece, Harvey’s Point, and Siubhán O’Connor from Corcreggan Mill, Dunfanaghy as a panel of local case studies on the issue.

As businesses look to adapt and become more environmentally aware and friendly, David Mellet, regional coordinator of the Climate Action Regional Office will speak about climate change and Green/Sustainable Business.

John Casey from the Rosapenna Hotel and Golf Resort who successfully hosted the Irish Legends Golf Tournament in August 2021 and will do so again this summer will share his experience working with golf tour operators and putting together golf packages.

Award-winning travel writer and expert Pól Ó Conghaile will provide attendees with an update on digitalization and travel and how Donegal businesses can adapt.

Attendees will take away some great tips and advice to put into practical use in their own business or regions. There will be lots of useful information stands on the day.

"This is an excellent opportunity to network with those in the tourism sector. Q&A sessions will take place offering attendees the opportunity to discuss tourism topics with the expert panel of guest speakers," a council spokesperson said.

The Donegal Tourism Conference 2022 is open to everyone with an interest in tourism.
