A public meeting is taking place to discuss the village of Dunkineely being left without a GP service.

The meeting will take place in Dunkineely Community Centre on Friday, December 9 at 8.30pm.

Deputy Thomas Pringle (Ind) and other public representatives will be in attendance.

The HSE has been invited to send a representative. Dr McManus who recently moved from Dunkineely to a practice in Glenties has also been invited to attend.

When the service closed in November, patients were told that they would be catered for in Glenties until such time as a new GP was appointed.

However, this is posing problems for many people, particularly those who are relying on public transport to get around.

It is also being reported locally that people are having difficulty getting appointments in Glenties, with some saying that they can’t get through on the phone.

The HSE said at the time that they were trying to get a replacement GP.
