Traffic delays today due to Donegal International Rally

Serious traffic congestion is expected in Letterkenny and parts of north Donegal today on what is day two of the Joule Donegal International Rally. Eight stages are being held today.

The Carnhill stage (near Ballyare/Ramelton) will be done three times, and so too will the Fanad Head stage. The famous Knockalla stage will be done twice.

Service for the rally is in Letterkenny.

With good weather and large crowds in attendance, there will be very heavy traffic in these areas, and motorists are being warned to allow extra time for journeys.

The event, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, is being staged for the first time since 2019 having had an enforced break due to Covid-19.

Additional gardaí will be on duty.

The overnight leader was Derry’s Callum Devine.

More than 160 crews took to the start for the main event, which concludes tomorrow.. There is also a junior rally, a rally for historics, and a special "Demonstration Run" on Sunday, featuring several former winners of the event in some iconic cars from the past.
