Knockalla Hill will once again reverberate with the roar of engines and the cheers of motorsport fans when the Danny Gormley Memorial Hillclimb takes place on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September 2025.
Now firmly established as one of the highlights of the Irish hillclimb calendar, the event pays tribute to the late Danny Gormley, whose love for Knockalla lives on through the annual festival of speed. This year’s running promises a thrilling mix of high-octane action, family fun, and community spirit.
Competitor entries open next week, with a packed grid anticipated across both days. Clerks of the Course John Crumlish and Brian Gibbons have been working closely with Donegal County Council, An Garda Síochána, emergency services, and local residents to ensure the event’s safe and successful return.
The organisers have also expressed their thanks to Mac Walsh of MW Fire Solutions, who continues as main sponsor. “It’s a great pleasure to work alongside the Hillclimb organisers in bringing this special event to Knockalla,” Mr Walsh said.
The Knockalla Hillclimb forms part of the Donegal Commercial Vehicles Club Championship and will once again showcase the J1000 category, which debuted last year. The class has quickly become a crowd favourite, offering young drivers the chance to test their skills on one of the most famous stretches of road in world motorsport.
Engines will fire up from 10.30am each morning, with a dedicated spectator bus transporting fans to the prime viewing area above the iconic Wilhare’s Bend. Visitors can look forward to a festival atmosphere throughout the weekend, with food stalls, live music, family entertainment, and commentary from Chris Fair at the start line, followed by award presentations for the fastest drivers and class winners.
Those wishing to compete, marshal, or simply find out more can keep up to date via the Donegal Motor Club Facebook page. As September approaches, anticipation is already building for another unforgettable weekend on Knockalla Hill, where speed, skill, and community come together in memory of a motorsport legend.
