Two men arrested by gardai investigating human trafficking and labour exploitation

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions

A FILE is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions after two men were arrested by gardai investigating suspected human trafficking and labour exploitation.

The men, aged in their 30s and 50s, were arrested during a search operation in County Carlow earlier this week.

Following their arrest on Monday, they were detained at Kilkenny garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

"This (operation) is part of the ongoing investigations into human trafficking and related criminal activity by officers attached to the Human Trafficking Investigation and Coordination Unit, at the Garda National Protective Services Bureau," said a garda spokesperson.

A file has been prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions  and gardai are calling on anyone who has been the victim of human trafficking to contact the Garda National Protective Services Bureau, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 11, or any garda station.

Incidents of human trafficking can also be reported to blueblindfold@garda.ie where they will be treated with the utmost sensitivity.
