A variety of popular children’s toys have been recalled due to fears they may contain a substance that is banned in Ireland

HTI Toys are carrying out a recall of Stretcherz Toys. According to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, these products present a risk to health as the sand inside may contain asbestos. This substance is banned across the EU because it poses a risk to health. 

The impacted items include:

Other retailers may also be affected and the CCPC will update this notice when more information is available.

In line with the position in the UK, the CCPC is advising consumers who have the product in their home to do the following:

  • Stop using the product immediately.
  • Place the product in a heavy-duty plastic bag, seal it securely, label it clearly and store it in a secure location out of reach of children. Contact your local authority for advice on collection and disposal.
  • Prior to disposal, contact your place of purchase to request a refund.
