John Kelly has been included in the Ireland team for the European Throwing Cup.
The Finn Valley AC man will compete in the shot put Leiria, Portugal next weekend.
The St Johnston native, who is coached by his father, John senior, has already travelled to Portugal in advance of the competition, which takes place on March 11 and 12.
Kelly is one of six athletes selected by Athletics Ireland.
Last summer, Kelly held the Irish shot put record for a period when throwing out to 20.16m.
That performance led to Kelly being selected for the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Kelly threw a best of 17.92m in Oregon and he set a new Championship record of 19.25m in winning the Irish senior shot put crown in Santry.
At the recent Irish Indoor Championships, Kelly took silver when reaching out to 19.19m, bettered only by the 19.26m of Eric Favors, who holds the Irish record.
