Finn Valley AC's Sinead McConnell won a superb bronze medal at the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships on Tuesday.

The Castlefin woman took bronze in the W50 3k race walk in Toruń, Poland.

McConnell crossed the line in 15:48.33 – a season's best time that represents her second fastest ever time.

Italy's Anna Savarese won gold in 15:23.45 with Valerie Boban from France claiming the silver when going 15:43.89.

McConnell's performance was just six seconds shy of her indoor best of 15:42.88, which was also set at Arena Toruń in 2019.

Then, McConnell was pipped to the podium, but last year won bronze in the European Championships in Braga.

Previously, she won a pair of bronze at the 2018 World Masters and a team silver in the 5k race walk at the 2018 European Championships.

Tuesday's performance will add further confidence ahead of the 10k race walk on Friday when McConnell will bid to lead the Irish team to team medals.
