Roisin Flanagan and Oisin Ó Gailín.
Finn Valley AC duo Roisin Flanagan and Oisín Ó Gailín had record breaking runs on Friday night in the United States.
Flanagan clocked a new Donegal record over one mile while Ó Gailín lowered the Finn Valley AC 5k record and goes second on the all-time Donegal list.
Ó Gailín was in action at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, California.
The Ballybofey man collapsed ten metres from the finish and crawled across the line.
“Not great, but will recover,” was Ó Gailín’s verdict after going 13:55.59. “I need to figure out what went wrong. If I kept the same pace on final lap it would’ve been a 13:43.”
His time was the second fastest ever by a Donegal athlete with Stranorlar native Gary Murray going 13:44.
Also on the road, Flanagan hit a new county best time of 4:36 for a mile. Flanagan adds that record to her indoor mark and continues her prep for the summer.
Both Flanagan and Ó Gailín will return to Ireland to compete in the National Championships this year.
