Donegal jockey Oisin Orr won the Sky Bet And Symphony Group Strensall Stakes at York on a horse part-owned by the legendary football manager Alex Ferguson.
Rathmullan man Orr guided Spirit Dancer to a fine win.
Ferguson - who guided Manchester United to 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues - is one of the part owners of Spirit Dancer.
The son of Frankel - once the highest-rated racehorse in the world - went off at 6/1 and won by a length from El Drama (15/2) with Clifford Lee in the saddle.
Orr, who is now the stable jockey for Spirit Dancer’s trainer Richard Fahey, came up trumps in the group 3 race. Spirit Dancer turned for home on the opposite side of the track to his rivals to claim the victory.
“He’s improving with every run and he’s getting better with age,” Orr said. “We went at a nice gallop. This lad has done it well. He is doing nothing wrong at the minute and he’s won that well enough and he’s improving.”
Fahey believes the Bahrain Trophy, a million dollar race in November, could be next for Spirit Dancer.
