Rachael Darragh reaches quarter-finals of Abu Dhabi Masters

Rachael Darragh reached the quarter-finals of the Abu Dhabi Masters.

The Raphoe woman continued her good sequence of results by going through to the last eight in the UAE.

Darragh began with a 21-14 21-14 win over Doha Hany from Egypt.

Eighth-seed Darragh overcame Jaymie Laurence from the Netherlands 21-19 21-12 to book a place in the quarter-finals.

India’s Imad Farooqui Samiya - who went on to finish as the runner-up to fellow countrywoman Unnati Hooda - overcame Darragh 21-11 21-9.

Darragh has also featured in the quarter-finals of the Yonex Dutch Open and the Peru Challenge having won bronze at the Lagos International Classic.

At the same tournament in Abu Dhabi, Joshua Magee and Paul Reynolds reached the last 16 of the men’s doubles.

After defeating Ivan Rusev and Iliyan Stoynov from Bulgaria 21-11 25-23, the Irish duo lost out to Prakash Raj and Thandranghi Babu from India 21-17 21-7.
