Oisin Toye was the winner of the St Stephen’s Day 5k at Finn Valley on Tuesday.

Toye led home a 438-strong field in 15 minutes and 44 seconds.

A crisp post-Christmas morning led to another strong turnout for the 53rd staging of an event that has become a hardy annual in the Finn Valley community.

Toye continued his good form with a strong surge to see off another on-song Finn Valley AC colleague, Odhran McBrearty - who will run for Ireland for the first time next month. McBrearty, the recent National Under-16 cross country silver medalist, crossed the line in 15:57, followed by Finn Valley’s Gerard Gallagher in 16:10.

It was also a Finn Valley 1-2-3 in the women’s race. The Flanagan twins, back from the United States, for the festive season, turned in solid outings.

Roisin Flanagan was fifth overall in 16:59 with Eilish Flanagan seventh in 17:04. In between them was Paul Smith, the Sessiaghoneill man home for Christmas from Germany, who clocked 17:00.

Natasha Kelly was the third woman to finish, going 18:37 for 18th overall.

Darcie Clarke took the McArdle Cup as the 12-year-old timed 20:30 to take the prize in honour of the late Anne McArdle, awarded to the leading under-15 girl to finish.

Pro boxer Jason Quigley, a regular attendee, finished in 22:23 with Donegal panelist Joel Bradley-Walsh going 22:38 on a day when prizes were sponsored by Connolly Motors, courtesy of Peadar McGranaghan/
