Arlene Crossan broke a 41-year-old record on Saturday to open her outdoor season in encouraging fashion.

At the Irish Milers Club meet at Morton Stadium, the Finn Valley AC woman won over 400m.

Crossan crossed the line in 55.13 seconds to take victory in a new Finn Valley AC club record.

The time by Crossan takes out the previous best of 55.70, set by Christine Lynch at the 1983 Irish Championships, also at Morton Stadium.

Crossan, who is coached by Shauna Carlin won from Sinead Treacy (55.59) and Niamh Murray (56.01). The Letterkenny woman previously competed at the European Youth and European U18 Championships and spent some time on a scholarship at West Texas A&M University.

Crossan's new mark sees the Letterkenny woman go second on the all-time Donegal list over the one-lap distance. Kelly McGrory holds the Donegal record with the 54.21 set in Belfast in May 2023.

Oisin Toye clocked a new PB to win the 800m in 1:56.09, Amy Greene was third in the 1500m in a new personal best of 9:49.79 and Eimear McCarroll was fourth over 1500m in 4:26.60, also a new PB.
