Caolan McFadden on his way to victory
Caolan McFadden began his cross country season with a useful run and win in Stranorlar on Sunday.
In the U16 and U18 boys race at the McGonagle Champions Cup Cross Country, the Cranford AC ace came out on top.
McFadden moved up the gears to get gold on his maiden cross country outing of the term.
Provincial and national honours will be chased by McFadden again this winter with the European Cross Country Championships an obvious target for the Creeslough lad.
Odhran McBrearty edged out Cranford's Michael Moore to lead Finn Valley to the U16 and U18 boys team title – and help clinch the McGonagle Champions Cup for his club.
McBrearty. Lorcan Byrne (4th), Paraic McGettigan (5th) and Jamie Gallagher (7th) scored as Finn Valley won the team crown.
The McGonagle Cup was presented to Finn Valley AC’s Lorcan Byrne following an excellent day of cross country that saw around 400 athletes in action.
Andrea Reid led a Finn Valley 1-2-3 in the U16-U18 girls race with Aimee McElchar and Nia Byrne following.
In the U14 girls race, Finn Valley AC also had the top three spots as Saorla Gilligan overhauled Darcie Clarke over the final 200m while Caoimhe McNeill was third.
Led by Katie McDowell in second – beaten by Keep 'er Lit's Alice Rafferty – Letterkenny AC won the team title in the U12 girls. McDowell was joined by Eve Nic Giolla Bhain (3rd), Niamh Woods (6th) and Aoibhe Gibson (7th).
Oisin McBride of Cranford AC showed his worth again with a good win in the U14 boys race, where Finn Valley AC took the team prize, led by Cian Neeson in fifth.
Shay McHugh, in second behind Armagh AC's Peter Rice, was the Finn Valley AC front-runner for team gold at U12s.
Newtowncunningham schoolboy Zach McKinley was a very impressive winner of the U10 boys race, surging clear of John Patrick Duffy (Cranford) and Sean McDermott (Letterkenny)
Finn Valley AC's Cora Clarke and Caitlin Gillespie won the U9 and U10 golds, while the U9 boys was won by Rosses AC's James McDonald.
Finn Valley AC won the U9 girls, U10 girls and U9 boys team golds while Letterkenny AC took the U10 boys team honours.
