Conditions belied the calendar on a morning of remembrance in the Finn Valley on Sunday.

The annual Remembrance Run, hosted by Finn Valley AC, drew over 600 participants and many more spectators to the Twin Towns.

The names and dates etched on the remembrance wall depicted tales of stories and memories of the dearly departed with loved ones running or walking either a 10k or 5k distance.

A competitive element to this event ensures a perfect mix of the serious and the jovial.

Danny Mooney won the 10k event for the second year in a row. The Letterkenny AC man cruised around the course in 32 minutes and 35 seconds – over a minute quicker than the 32:43 the 2014 Commonwealth Games participant clocked last ear.

Mooney had just under three minutes to spare on his LAC colleague Philip McHugh (34:32) with Christopher McNickle of Springwell in third, clocking 34:49.

Letterkenny AC's Noeleen Scanlan, a week out from the national senior cross country in Enniskillen, was the leading woman over 10k, crossing the line in 36:21.

Rosses AC's Bernie Boyle was second in 39:03 and Crusaders AC's Kathryn Gibbons third in 39:11.

Mark Tourish (16:43) was the winner of the 5k ahead of Stephen Connor (17:28) and Colm Brogan (19:28).

Grainne Rouse (23:57), Cora Clarke (24:03) and Judith Chambers (25:05) were the leading three female participants over 5k.

A donation from the event was handed over to the family of Aisling Lyttle to be presented to the oncology ward of Letterjkenny University Hospital.

The mother-of-two, a native of Kilcar who lived in Stranorlar, died at LUH in January and a huge crowd of family and friends gathered on Sunday to honour her memory. Around 100 taking part in Aisling's memory swelled the crowd to a record level of over 600.

The 10th anniversary of Kym Harley – from just around the corner at Dreenan – was marked with a prominent spot on the remembrance wall.

The Creeslough explosion took its place. So, too, did Paul 'Diddler' Dillon, the Newtowncunningham native who died of motor neurone disease in 2019 and whose family and close friends have been regular attendees at the event in the years since.
