In Pictures: Introducing the 1984 Donegal Sports Star Award winners 40 years on

The Donegal Sports Star Committee caught up with the winners of 40 years ago on Monday night in Letterkenny. These are the stories of the 1984 winners

Kevin McBrearty - Athletics 

It was back-to-back Awards for McBrearty who was an outstanding performer in that era. The previous year the big success was winning the Irish U-20 Javelin title which he repeated that feat in 1984. He did a national double by also taking the Irish U-23 Javelin title in 1984. He was crowned the U-23 champion again in 1985.

In 1988 he set a Donegal javelin record with a throw of 60m at the BLE Decathlon Finals.  He was inducted into the Donegal Athletics Board’s Hall of Fame in October 2022.
