The Letterkenny AC squad in Athlone for the National Indoor League
Letterkenny AC placed eighth in the men’s section and ninth in the women’s division of the National Indoor League on Saturday.
Erin Friel clocked a new indoor 200m personal best while the LAC men’s 4x400m relay were also in fine form at the TUS Indoor Arena in Athlone.
When the sums were totted, the LAC men scored 131 points, for an eighth place finish, while the black and amber er women were ninth, scoring 154 points.
Clonliffe Harriers topped the charts in the men’s section with Ratoath AC the women’s victors.
Friel was the fastest of the 200m competitors, crossing the line in 24.98 seconds. Ratoath’s Katie Doherty finished in 25.05 seconds and was the next fastest.
Friel’s previous best in an indoor 200m was the 25.62 seconds recorded in Athlone two years ago.
A couple of weeks ago, Friel won her 400m heat on the opening day of the National Indoor League.
Friel also ran a leg of the women’s 4x400m relay. Friel, Kathryn McDevitt, Katie Elliott and Anya Duffy finished in 4:09.87 for third in their heat and fourth overall.
Emma Bonar was third in her 800m, going 2:18.94, while Duffy went over the bar at 2.45m for third in the pole vault.
McDevitt threw to 4.50m for 10th in the weight for distance and Sarah O’Keeney came eighth in the triple jump, leaping to 9.79m.
Ryan Canning, Joseph Aidoo, Sheldon Romeo Nyoni and Danny McKinley stopped the clock at 3:25.35 to win their 4x400m heat and were second fastest overall, bettered only by Dundrum South Dublin’s 3:22.33 in another heat.
Donal Farren finished fifth in the 3,000m in 8:46.65 while Aidoo won a 200m heat in 22.63 seconds, the fourth fastest overall.
Aidoo was eighth in the weight for distance, going out to 4.76m, Nyoni touched the sand at 11.69m for seventh in the triple jump and Daragh Naughton finished an 800m in 2:05.90, 13th in the overall placings.

In a guest women’s weight for distance, held alongside the National Indoor League, Finn Valley AC’s Bridget McDyer threw a season-opening 6.30m.
