Caoimhin Connolly won on his international debut on Friday night in Drogheda.

The Twin Towns flyweight defeated Nidhi from India at the Holy Family BC in a youth international.

Connolly dropped Nidhi in the first round of their 48kgs clash and was handed a unanimous decision by the judges.

Ireland won the night by eight bouts to two.

Some Irish youngsters also fought on a youth international involving France and India on Thursday night at the National Stadium in Dublin.

Friday’s was Connolly’s first official international vest having claimed a victory on a youth international bill at the Guildhall in Derry when he defeated Harley Salinger from the Sacred Heart BC in Dublin in a support bout to an Ireland v Wales international earlier in March.

In January, Connolly overcame Kurt Kinsella to land the National Youth 48kgs title at the National Stadium.

Previously, Connolly won gold at the 2024 William Wallace Box Cup in Scotland and he took the Billy ’Spider’ Kelly Cup for the best youth at the 2024 County Donegal Boxing Board Awards having taken the award for most improved boxer 12 months earlier.

However, he exited the recent Boy 4 Championships when Kurt Kinsella, a Monsktown boxer, got his hand raised after earning a 4-1 split decision.
