In Pictures: Stewart first home in second running of Monte Challenge in Mountcharles

Conditions were difficult with wind and rain but it not deter Monte participants and organisers

 

The Monte Challenge in Mountcharles on Saturday morning was a real challenge for competitors with wind and rain but the competitors and organisers made light of the conditions and Sean Stewart was first home to win the second running of the competition.

Stewart came home in 2 hours, 19 minutes and 17 seconds, ahead of Niall Corless by 11 seconds with the inaugural winner David McKelvey third in 2:19:54, which made it a very competitive race.

The Ladies Monte was won by Caroline McLoughlin in 2:40:53, ahead of Laura O'Driscoll (2:49:24) and Ruth Candon (2:56:14).
Winners of the Half Monte were - Male: Shaun McGee (1:13:41); 2, Nigel Foster (1:14:04); 3, Michael Pickles (1:15:16).

Half Monte - Female: 1 Genevieve Molloy (1:27:07); 2, Cassandra McGee (1:29:34); 3, Caron McDermott (1:33:28).
Winners in Sprint Monte Male: 1, Oisin Gallagher (21:10); 2, Brendan Coughlan (23:15); 3, Adam McBrearty (23:29). Female: 1, Teresa Gallagher (28:00); 2, Virginia Reid (29:34); 3, Gemma Molloy (31:51).

Great credit must go to the organisers, sponsors, officials, etc. for making the event a great success once more.
