Jordan Furey won a silver at the Irish National MMA Championships

Jordan Furey had to settle for silver at the inaugural Irish National MMA Championships.

The Letterkenny man lost out to Colin Meagher in Sunday’s senior welterweight final at SBG HQ in Dublin.

Meagher took the win via a decision after three rounds of action.

The 22-year-old Furey, 5-0 as a mixed martial artist coming into this weekend’s competition, scored an excellent win in the semi-final.

Furey defeated Liam McGeough in Saturday’s semi-final via ground and pound in the first round.

A place at the European Championships was up for grabs this weekend.

Furey had won the Clan Wars super lightweight title in Belfast, stopping Fredrick Høifødt after just 72 seconds in December.

The former Rilion Gracie Ireland prospect’s record drops to 6-1 after his defeat to Meagher.
