Historic win takes Raphoe ladies into final for first time

Raphoe ladies booked a place in the Irish Hockey Trophy final on Saturday afternoon.

The Donegal side saw off Ashton to seal their place in the decider.

Goals by Leanne Patterson, Wendy Patterson and Sabrina Barnett sealed a historic win. This is the first ladies team from Raphoe Hockey Club to reach a cup final.

In front of a big crowd at the Royal and Prior School Grounds, Raphoe began on the front foot.

Leanne Patterson riffled Raphoe into the lead in the opening quarter.

Raphoe held a slender 1-0 lead at half-time and Wendy Patterson doubled their advantage.

In the closing ten minutes, Barnett slammed in a third goal.

Raphoe will play Avoca in the final, which is scheduled to take place in May.
