There will be a strong Donegal presence on the Ulster team for the 2022 Tailteann Games.
The games, the interprovincial schools under-17s competition, takes place in Tullamore on Friday, June 24.
Finn O’Neill, who recently set a new Irish under-18 decathlon record, captains the Ulster boys team.
The Lifford-Strabane AC man, a student at Limavady Grammar School, goes in the 100m hurdles and the pole vault. O’Neill is joined by Finn Valley AC and St Columba’s, Stranorlar’s Daniel McHugh in the 4x400m relay team.
St Columba’s Comprehensive Glenties scholar Fintan Dewhirst, a Tir Chonaill AC athlete is selected in the 400m hurdles and the 4x100m relay.
Tir Chonaill’s Cathal O’Donnell, who also attends St Columba’s in Glenties, is chosen in the 800m and 1500m events whole his club and school-mate Eoin Boyle is named in the high jump and long jump.
Tir Chonaill athlète Daire McDevitt (Colaiste Cholmcille) will compete in the triple jump and long jump while Jamie Kennedy (Abbey Vocational School), will be in 100m hurdles action and Luke Ward (St Columba’s, Glenties) takes part in the hammer.
Finn Valley man and St Columba’s, Stranorlar student Dean Leeper has gained selection in the shot put and javelin.
Lifford-Strabane AC’s Caoimhe Gallen, who goes to St Columba’s in Stranorlar, will look to continue her good form in the hammer.
Thrower Ellie McCurdy, a student at Holy Cross in Strabane who trains out of the Lifford-Strabane AC, features in the javelin and shot put, joined in the latter by Abbey VS and Tir Chonaill AC athlete Ava Anderson.
In the triple jump, Anderson and Maria Kelly, a Tir Chonaill AC representative who attends St Columba’s in Stranorlar, have been selected.
Rosses Community School’s Amy Timoney (Finn Valley AC) and Ashleigh McArdle (Lifford-Strabane AC) of Holy Cross go in the 300m hurdles with Crana College’s Ella Costello (Inishowen AC) in the 80m hurdles.
Loreto, Letterkenny’s Fern Duffy (Letterkenny AC) will run in the 200m, Loreto, Milford woman Amy Cullen (Cranford AC) attempts the long jump and the 2k walk includes Abbey VS’s Grace Masterson (Tir Chonaill AC).
