Tir Chonaill AC men win Division 1 title in National League

It was a red letter day for Tir Chonaill AC at the AAI National League Final at Tullamore on Sunday with the men's team winning Division 1 and the women's team coming third in Division 1

Tir Chonaill AC men’s team won the Division 1 league title at the AAI National League Final at Tullamore on Sunday.

On a red-letter day for the Donegal club, the Tir Chonaill AC women won bronze in Division 1.

The men’s team were powered by European Under-18 silver medallist Fintan Dewhirst.

In the 100m hurdles, Dewhirst sped to victory in 15.96 seconds. Dewhirst also won the 200m in 22.47 seconds.

Eoin Sharkey followed up to land a victory in the 400m hurdles, finishing in in 57.49 seconds.

Sharkey, Dewhirst, Conall Mahon and Shay O’Halloran were second in the 4x100m, clocking 44.97 seconds, while Sharkey, Dewhirst, Mahon and Martin Cunningham were third in the 4x400m going 3:29.87.

Mahon won the long jump, leaping out to 6.46m and his 13.75m won the triple jump.

Brendan O’Donnell and Gareth Crawford, the Lifford-Strabane AC pair who were guesting for Tir Chonaill won the hammer and javelin events respectively.

Crawford won the javelin with a 62.73m throw with O’Donnell taking the maximum points in the hammer, firing out to 56.52m before taking second in the shot with a 10.30m throw.

Robert Anderson was second in the weight for distance (5.51m) and third in the discus (23m).

There were also points scored by Jack Kelly who was fourth in the 800m, Jack Murphy came fourth in pole vault, with Sharkey fifth in the 400m and Cunningham sixth in the 1500m.

Daire McDevitt finished seventh in the high jump and O’Halloran placed eighth in the 100m.

Tir Chonaill AC women took third spot after a count back.

Lexi Campbell won the 100m hurdles in 17.03 seconds, 0.05 seconds faster than Ennis’s Laura McDonnell.

Geraldine Steward won the shot when throwing 11.70m and then came second in the weight for distance, with a best throw of 5.99m.

Michaela Galvin topped the triple jump charts when leaping out to 10.45m.

Adrienne Gallen, also guesting from Lifford-Strabane AC, was second in both the hammer (51.84m) and discus (31.58m) events.

Kitty McNulty was second in the pole vault (1.50m) and third in the 3000m steeplechase (14:43.22) while Ciara Cunningham was third in the 3000m, finishing in 11:48.70.

Here were fourth place finishes for Valeria Mirishnichenko and Laois McGonagle in the 1500m and high jump while Savannah Timoney was fifth in both the 400m and 800m.

Niamh Moohan finished fifth in the 400m hurdles in 1:22.70 before taking sixth spot in the long jump with Galvin coming sixth in the 100m and javelin and McGonagle placing eighth in the 200m.

McGonagle, Cunningham, Mirishnichenko and Timoney teamed up to come seventh in the 4x400m relay.
