Mark English is through to the men’s 800m final at the European Athletics Championships after an excellent semi-final.
The Finn Valley AC man finished third in his semi-final at the Olympiastadion, securing automatic qualification to Sunday evening’s final.
English crossed the line in 1:46.66 to book his place in the final. It was, again, a controlled, comfortable and confident run by English, who showed his race experience when it counted.
Mariano García of Spain won the semi-final in 1:46.52 with Great Britain’s Jake Wightman second in 1:46.61.
The 29-year-old won his heat on Thursday morning in 1:47.54.
English was the third fastest of the qualifiers for the final. Already a three-time European medalist, English will aim to be in the medals shake-up when he goes under starter’s orders on Sunday.
