John McElhill took victory in his marathon debut on Saturday.
The Finn Valley AC man won the Run Galway Bay Marathon in a sprint finish.
It was McElhill’s first time to run the full 26.2 miles competitively.
McElhill sped to victory along the Salthill promenade, finishing at the Claddagh. McElhill clocked a tidy 2:36.
Second in the Donegal Half Marathon recently, McElhill is a regular competitor on the local 5k circuit.
Finn Valley AC team-mates Dermot McElchar, Shane McNulty and Gerard Gallagher were among McElhill’s support crew.
