Mark English will be crowned as the Ulster Senior Male Athlete of the Year on Friday night.

The 2022 Ulster Star Awards take place at the Bayview Hotel in Killybegs.

Finn Valley AC's English, the European 800m bronze medallist, will be presented with the senior male gong.

Lucy McGlynn of Tir Chonaill AC will be presented with the junior female award while Caitriona Jennings of Letterkenny AC and Fintan Dewhirst from Tir Chonaill AC will be given outstanding international performance awards.

English ran 1:45.19 in Munich to win bronze at the European Championships.

At the World Championships in Oregon he was just 0.05 seconds off his 1:45.71 Irish record, set last summer.

In July, Dewhirst won silver in the 400m hurdles at the Under-18 European Championships in Jerusalem.

The Glenties man clocked a scintillating 51.65 in the final to take almost one second off his previous personal best and bag a new Irish under-18 record.

McGlynn set a new Donegal record at the World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Colombia.

McGlynn finished her 100m hurdles heat at Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero in 13.92 seconds.

Jennings won gold at the European 50k Championships last month and was third at the 100k World Championships in August.

Jennings was the second woman to finish at the JFK 50 Mile on Saturday, finishing in 6:28:53.

County Donegal awards will also be presented on the night.

Kayla Russell of Lifford-Strabane AC will be given the girls 12-15 award with Finn Valley AC's taking the boys 12-15 prize.

McGlynn will also collect the girls 16-19 award while Joseph Gillespie of Finn Valley AC and Cranford AC's Oisin Kelly are the joint winners of the boys 16-19 category.
