Caolan McFadden takes bronze in Cork

There was team silver for Finn Valley under-13 girls while there were provincial medals for some other Donegal athletes at the National Novice and Uneven Ages Cross Country Championships

Caolan McFadden takes bronze in Cork

Just two weeks after capturing a national gold on home soil, Cranford AC's Caolan McFadden added a bronze to his ever-expanding collection on Sunday.

McFadden, the Irish under-16 cross country champion, won bronze in the under-17 race in Cork.

The Novice and Uneven Age Cross Country Championships were hosted by St Catherine's AC.

McFadden, running out of his age group, earned a place on the podium with a third-placed finish.

Tallaght's Cormac Dixon won gold with Moy Valley AC's Darragh Mulrooney taking second.

McFadden and Letterkenny AC's Philip McGee, who finished in 25th, helped Ulster to take silver medals.

Finn Valley AC won team silver in the under-13 race. The Finn Valley AC girls were led by Niamh McGlinchey in 22nd, backed up by Darcie Clarke (23rd), Andrea Reid (30th) and Amy McElchar.

The Finn Valley quartet all scored for Ulster to take further silvers.

Anna Russell of Letterkenny AC scored to help Ulster take provincial gold in the under-15 girls race.

Russell finished in 16th spot. LAC were fourth team with Emma Bonar, Cara McGonagle and Marina Mercade Martorell scoring alongside Russell.

Lifford-Strabane AC's Elsa Moore was a fine 11th in the under-17 girls race and scored on the silver-winning Ulster team.

Finn Valley AC's Eimear McCarroll finished an excellent fifth in the under-19 race.

There were also top 20 finishes for Rosses AC's Jack McElroy, who was 11th in the under-13s, Finn Valley's Odhran McBrearty, who came 16th in the under-15 race, and Finn Valley's Ryan Quinn, who came home 19th in the under-189s.

In the novice women's race, Leoni Cooke of Finn Valley was 19th. Aided by Stacey Leonard in 27th, Joanne Campbell (60th) and Maggie O'Hara (75th), Finn Valley were seventh team with the Valley four scoring for Donegal to come fifth in the county standings.

Oisin Toye from Finn Valley AC was 26th in the novice men's race.
