Karen Skelly is a photographer based in Ballyshannon
Ballyshannon-based photographer Karen Skelly was early to rise to capture the partial lunar eclipse before dawn on Friday.
Karen took the photo over the Erne Estuary of the 'blood moon' which happens when the moon moves into Earth’s shadow, gradually darkening before turning red.
In a partial lunar eclipse, the sun, Earth and moon are almost, rather than fully, aligned. This means a dark section appears on the moon.

The moon had already set below the horizon by the time of the full lunar eclipse at 6.58am, so only a partial lunar eclipse was visible and part, rather than all, of the moon appeared red.
