Sinn Féin Spokesperson for Finance Deputy Pearse Doherty
Donegal TD and Sinn Féin Spokesperson for Finance Deputy Pearse Doherty has spoken of his outrage that the Gaoth Dobhair sewerage scheme has not been included in the government and Uisce Éireann's capital plan up to 2030.
The Deputy submitted a complaint to the EU Commission in 2015, resulting in infringement proceedings being taken against the state for failing to provide a sewerage scheme for the area.
Teachta Doherty said: "I have today received confirmation that Uisce Éireann have not included the Gaoth Dobhair sewerage scheme in its Capital Plan to 2030. This is absolutely unacceptable and I will be seeking an immediate meeting with Uisce Éireann and raising the matter in the Dáil with the Minister.

"Progressing the much-needed Gaoth Dobhair Sewerage Scheme was a commitment from the government and Uisce Éireann that they have now completely withdrawn.
"The community has waited for a sewerage scheme now for decades. It is holding up housing, including social housing, and important commercial and tourism developments in the area.
"The commitment followed my submitting a complaint to the European Commission about the state's failure to deliver a sewerage scheme in Gaoth Dobhair and the commission taking infringement proceedings against the state in response.
"This also forced the delivery of a pilot scheme where 50 properties were connected. To renege on committing to progressing the scheme at this point is scarcely believable and another example of how government ignores rural communities. It is totally unacceptable."
