The restored railway cottage is now managed by the Landmark Trust
Donegal Railway Heritage Museum has paid tribute to one of its most dedicated supporters following her death at the age of 91.
Connie Denne died on Friday, March 10. Along with her husband Jack, Connie was a supporting member of the society.
A spokesperson said: "Connie and Jack owned and restored Crossing Gate No 9 at Drumstevlin, Donegal Town. They bought the cottage in 1999/2000 when it was nearly in ruin and restored it to how it is today.
"Today the Irish Landmark Trust rent out the cottage.
"It was a relation of Connie's who used to live and work the crossing gate there in the 1950s, and when Connie saw it for sale they bought it and restored it.
"They used to come to Donegal and spend two or three months at a time here.
"A local builder carried out a lot of the work on the cottage, and Connie sourced out the fittings etc for it."
The picturesque cottage is a beautiful throwback to the heyday of the Donegal railway, and a wonderful legacy of Connie's time in the area.
