Carndonagh FC will vacate their St Patrick's Park home..
Carndonagh FC have sought planning permission for a major development on the outskirts of the town.
The club's proposed development at Carrickafoden is part of a joint plan to develop a €3m family hub and sport facilities in the town.
Carndonagh FC will vacate their current home at St Patrick's Park, which is to be turned into Donegal’s first child and family hub, developed by Spraoi, the local social enterprise.
Carndonagh FC have formally lodged documents with Donegal County Council seeking the green light.
The new development would consist of three outdoor pitches, including a main grass pitch, a grass training pitch and a 3G pitch.
Carndonagh FC also plan to construct a new two-storey clubhouse and sports hall to include changing and showering facilities, a function room and an indoor training pitch.
The development is also set to include a walking track.
The planning application provides for a new wastewater treatment plant with percolation area, along with associated site works.
The joint venture was announced in September by the Trustees of St Patrick’s Park and Carrick Sports Field Committee.
“This is a wonderful, far-sighted collaboration between the trustees, the soccer club and Spraoi,” said Owen McGuinness, spokesperson for the Trustees.
“The proposed developments are a huge bonus for all of Inishowen and will be an enduring community asset.”
Carndonagh FC Chairperson Jim Coyle at the time described the idea as 'a significant opportunity to see state of the art sporting facilities on one site in Carrickafoden'.
He said: “It offers us the chance to cater better for our membership and especially the 320 children that attend training.”
Football has been in St Patrick's Park since 1947, but first team manager, Gerard Crossan, said in September: “The club has developed over the years and has outgrown the park.”
