Fionn and Aodhán Cassidy with Celtic jerseys of Callum McGregor and Cameron Carter-Vickers at Celtic Park
Two cousins from Gaoth Dobhair had a day to remember at Celtic Park on Saturday.
Aodhán and Fionn Cassidy were the Celtic mascots for their 5-1 victory over St Mirren in the Scottish Cup fifth round and led out the team with captain Callum McGregor in front of 37,728 in Glasgow.
Former Donegal captain Kevin Cassidy and Sarah are Fionn’s parents, while Aodhán’s parents are former Gaoth Dobhair and Donegal footballer, Stephen Cassidy and Rosaleen.
Daizen Maeda scored Celtic's first and after the break Reo Hatate made it 2-0 from a penalty after Richard Taylor had been sent off for handball and Oh Hyeon-gyu then poked home his first Celtic goal. Mark O'Hara pulled one back for the visitors, before Matt O'Riley and Hatate strikes sealed Celtic’s win.
Aodhán and Fionn also got to meet Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou on a day they will never forget.
“The best day of their lives,” said Kevin on social media, remembering his and Stephen’s late father and Aodhán and Fionn’s grandfather Tommy. “Their Grandad Tommy would have been a proud man today - we don’t pick our team it’s passed down to us”
