Jodie Loughrey captains the Republic of Ireland into a crunch 2023 UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship round 2 qualifier on Wednesday.

After wins over Kosovo and Italy, Ireland face hosts France in Tarnos on Wednesday knowing a positive result could punch their tickets for the finals.

Buncrana woman Loughrey, who plays for Sligo Rovers in the Women's National League, skippers the girls in green and helped lead the way for fine wins in recent days.

Three first-half goals from Fiana Bradley, Joy Ralph and Jess Fitzgerald gave Ireland a 3-0 win over Kosovo.

Ireland were back in action on Sunday and Loughrey went close to breaking the deadlock with a speculative effort against Italy.

On 25 minutes, the breakthrough arrived when Peamount United ace Fitzgerald scored for the second game running.

The free-kick, from around 30 yards out, was meant as a delivery but Italy goalkeeper Emma Mustafic missed an attempted punch and the ball sailed into the back of the net.

Loughrey went close again late in the game along with substitutes Bradley and Rebecca Devereux and Ireland held on for the win.
