The Donegal Womans League U-15 side.

The Donegal Womens League U-15 side had a brilliant Foyle Cup and just missed out on Silverware as American outfit Surf Select defeated them 2-0 in the final.

The Donegal girls had come through their group stage in confident fashion winning all three games, scoring 11 and conceding none.

The US based Surf Select were also unbeaten and hadn’t conceded so it promised to be a close affair in Wilton Park.

DWL captain for the day Sarah Colhoun led the Donegal girls out onto the pitch in warm sunshine.  The US side - picked from 43 surf Select Academy centres across the States and Canada - started strongly, but the DWL girls held firm and pushed back with a couple of attacks.

The pace and strength of the Surf Select eventually yielded a goal just before half-time but it needed a deflection to wrongfoot Mary B McKeever in the Donegal goal.

The Donegal girls worked tirelessly with the back four of Sarah McCarron, Scarlett Keys, Sophie Doherty and Zoe Murray repelling every attack while midfielders Holly McCarron, Chloe Blaney and Sarah Colhoun won duels, got on the ball and set up attacks.

Hannah McGowan, in the lone striker role, ran and ran and had a couple of attempts as did wingers Sarah McGuinness and Chloe Deeney.

Second half sub Sophie McLaughlin came really close before Surf scored their second with a sweeping move.

The Donegal girls didn’t give up and subs Aoife Cameron, Sorcha Keys, Cliodhna Kelly and Lucy McGarvey freshened up the Donegal side.

The final whistle sounded with the score at 2-0 and the Donegal girls were applauded off the pitch by our fantastic supporters and the US visiting support to receive their well-deserved runners up medals.

It was a fantastic four days of football by the girls where every one of the squad excelled and the coaches Una Sweeney and Paddy Colhoun and supporters are so proud of this wonderful group of girls who will no doubt go on to future success.
