Former Finn Harps boss Paul Hegarty

Ex-Finn Harps boss Paul Hegarty is being tipped to replace Paddy McLaughlin as assistant manager at Derry City.

Alan Reynolds had been widely expected to leave Watford and return to the Candystripes. However, ongoing negotiations of a compensation package there might yet mean Derry turn their attention to Hegarty. 

The Ballindrait man, also an ex Institute manager and former Derry assistant and caretaker boss, enjoys a  close relationship with Derry boss Ruaidhri Higgins. 

Paddy McLaughlin left the role earlier this week by "mutual consent" and Higgins would no doubt like to have the position filled before Derry welcome Drogheda United to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium next Friday night.
