Former Finn Harps manager Paul Hegarty
Derry City has unveiled former Finn Harps manager and Donegal native Paul Hegarty as their latest addition to the coaching staff, taking on the role of assistant manager.
Hegarty, aged 56, hailing from Ballindrait and a former midfielder, boasts a rich history with the club, having been a key figure in the triumphant treble-winning squad.
Replacing Paddy McLaughlin, who departed the position after a brief tenure by mutual agreement, the former Finn Harps Manager Hegarty now steps into the fold.
With the imminent new season looming just a week away, head coach Rúaidhrí Higgins can now boast a complete backroom team.
Hegarty has a history with Derry City, having played for the club during two separate periods between 1987 and 2000, accumulating 303 appearances and nine goals.
He also served as assistant manager under Stephen Kenny from 2005 to 2006 and took on the role of caretaker manager in 2015, successfully steering the club away from relegation.
Expressing his satisfaction with the appointment, Higgins remarked, "I'm thrilled to have Paul on board; his extensive experience will undoubtedly enhance our team.
"I've witnessed firsthand his exceptional work ethic and in-depth knowledge of both the league and its players.
"Paul's dedication to the club is evident, and I anticipate his valuable contribution."
Acknowledging Hegarty's past achievements with the club, both as a player and as an assistant to Stephen Kenny, Higgins expressed optimism for future success.
In response, Hegarty conveyed his eagerness to embark on this new chapter ahead of the forthcoming season.
"I'm delighted to return to the fold, fully aware of the significance this club holds for me.
"My aim is to support Rúaidhrí and the players in any way possible, embracing the challenge that lies ahead."
