Sean Patton with Finn Harps manager Darren Murphy
Sean Patton scored for Portsmouth on Friday night during his trial period at Pompey.
The 17-year-old from Drumkeen netted the third goal in a 3-0 pre-season friendly win over Havant & Waterlooville on Friday evening.
Patton, currently on loan at Finn Harps from Derry City, has been given a chance to impress by Pompey boss John Mousinho.
Patton, who misses Harps' FAI Cup game in Cork City this evening, has done his chances of winning a contract at Fratton Park no harm.
After goals from Ryley Towler and Christian Saydee at Westleigh Park on Friday night, Patton bagged the third, riffling into the bottom corner from a Terry Devlin cut-back.
“If he goes and does really well, no-one will be more delighted for him than me,” Harps manager Darren Murphy said during the week. “It's getting a taste for it. I wouldn't have any fear about Sean being able to adapt or settle anywhere.
“He is very astute and he is very aware of the talent that he has. He also listens and is coachable, which is so important.”
A former Harps Academy player, Patton signed a three-year deal at the Brandywell recently and Portsmouth – the League One champions last season who will play in the Championship – have eyed him up.
