Donegal Underage League side that made history by reaching an All-Ireland final

The Donegal Underage League U-16 team has made history in reaching the All-Ireland final this weekend.

The 2009 squad made the long journey to Eamonn Deacy Park, home of Galway City FC in what proved to be an unforgettable All-Ireland semi-final contest against the Tribesmen that saw the away side prevail on a 2-1 scoreline two weeks ago.

With the sides level at 1-1 in extra-time and with just two minutes remaining before penalties, Davin Kelly picked up the ball in midfield and surged toward the Galway defence.

The goalkeeper parried his shot, but Daithi McTaggart reacted quickest, using his close control to bypass a defender before slotting home the winning goal with little over a minute left on the clock.

Now, the team is preparing for their biggest challenge yet as they travel to Limerick for the All-Ireland final on Saturday, March 8, with kick-off set for 11:20am.

The match at the University of Limerick Sports Grounds will be the ultimate test for this talented squad, who have shown resilience and dedication in their pursuit of glory. As they step onto the pitch, they will carry with them the hopes of Donegal football supporters eager to see them lift the trophy.

Fans across the county are encouraged to show their support, whether by travelling to the match or cheering from home.

It must be said that this Donegal squad of 18 players is among the strongest the county has produced in recent years. Each player demonstrated versatility and commitment, a true testament to the squad’s depth and talent.
